The field of public management has recently gained considerable importance in China. As a discipline it seeks to offer answers to fundamental questions such as how best to mobilize and allocate public resources, organize and coordinate public organizations, formulate and implement effective public policies, and provide quality public services. Our school recognizes that sound public management is critical to economic growth and social progress.
China is currently experiencing profound structural changes. On the road to establishing a socialist market economy, China has instituted far-reaching economic reforms that require a resilient public administration system based on law and democratic principles. Continuing pressures of globalization and China’s entry into the WTO only reinforce the importance of these institutions. In this era of great change, the critical challenge facing China’s leaders is how to prepare public officials with the key analytic concepts and tools necessary to improve their capacity for public management.
It is our school’s mission to develop the field of public management in China through first-rate public policy research and the rigorous training of public officials. We are dedicated to this historic undertaking and through such efforts we hope to contribute to the success of China's economic and social transformation.
